i have a lot of roommate stories

i will offer them now and then over time as i can't type fast

i read the posts you have already and as bad as they are i have seen much worse

I have a huge home in Tampa on the water and i have two very nice rooms I rent out.

the housemates that are the worst are the ones who agree to move in and then you never hear from them again after showing your home and wasting your time and you get the feeling they may return to rob you or worse.

another really bad problem is that they don't change their address from mine after they leave. One guy who was a retired Army COLONEL (steve) was here less than 6 weeks by mutual agreement, he wouldn't ask me if I wanted him to do something around the house, he would go ahead and do it WRONG.

his mail came here for a year after that, i could tell there were all kinds of duns and summons for debt, he even had given out my phone number so that i got calls from his debtors looking for him.

two men in the past year and a half were computer consultants making a lot of money (I verified it) and were such stupid careless drunks that they were a threat to the welfare of my home and pets. One (Greg Sides) had an accident while drunk and ran from the police to my home. Later some people showed up here who he had hit and there was a huge argument.

the other (Mark Ducharme) i found sitting on the back porch one day when I walked in and the house was close to 100 o F with both air conditioners running. The 6 foot kitchen doors were wide open and

he was outside smoking cigarettes and blind drunk. When I asked him why he got mad and packed up and left.

a short time later I got a flood of mail for him from attorneys, sure enough his photo and arrest record are online for felony DUI

i've tried to reach him but his phone is cut off and I tried to reach his dad to complain about the mail still coming in months after he moved out.

I now also have a policy to not have vegetarians in my home..

it is usually an excuse for them to not buy groceries and to not eat right so that their brains don't work right.

I got another roommate just before I had to leave town for a month. Coy Dukes said he had a dog and I told him roommate pets were not allowed except if caged. He agreed to have his dog go to his brothers while he lived at my home...

I came back and he said my dog was shedding very badly all the time.

she usually only sheds twice a year....

she has long gray hair, the house was covered with short black hair, i mean EVERYWHERE, floating in the air, under the furniture in huge gobs, even in the refrigerator

I found out he had a huge Lab field dog and had her sleeping in the bottom of his closet of his room while I was gone. She was also very intimidating to my lady dog who is a medium size shepherd and was used to being the alpha dog. the other dog dominated her, 'dogged' her

He also was a drinker and one day he smoked some fish outside an other unused room. I went in there about a week later and opened a window and the horrible stench filled the house..I went outside and found he had left a whole fish in the smoker.

He had promised to help take care of the house but turned out to be lazy and inept, lost his job and sat around for a few weeks doing nothing but playing on his computer and fishing. He was surprised when I told him he had to leave ASAP because I was tired of cleaning up after his dog.

the mail still is coming in here in huge bundles for him,

Another one, Richard Dixon, disappeared one day and a few days later I found out he was in jail, he didn't come back for his stuff for a year. That was several years ago and I still get mail for him now and then.

ANOTHER one did not want to use the spare computer I had available for him to use...

I went away for a weekend and was supposed to be back on Tuesday

I disassembled most of my computer but when I came back on Monday early I found it was all put back together and sure enough had been used to go to many porn sites.

Another who called himself Savign I found laying out nude in the back yard one day in full view of the workers building the apartments across from my back yard. He smoked so much pot he was incoherently stupid most of the time.

I left for one weekend and when I came back the pool was dark green

he had taken the chlorinator out of the pool

when i asked why he said because he didn't know what it was.

He rarely had the rent money (paying by the week) and when I told him he had to leave after just a month because he wasn't paying he refused and got extremely abusive. I even videotaped him being hysterical and threatening me but he apparently knew the law and I couldn't evict him for weeks during his abuse of me and my home

he would turn on the hot water in the shower and leave for work, turn the air conditioning down to the 50's, anything he could do to cost me money or trouble.

I go for long periods of time without housemates but with poor health and a lot to do it is good for me to have someone around at least part of the time.

the small bit of rent is often offset by damage done and jacked up utilities, so much sneakiness and rarely any responsibility for mistakes, I didn't find out the bathroom sink was leaking and ruined the cabinet till after Coy moved out, he had tightened the throat of the drain down with a wrench so much (supposed to be 'hand tightened') that it squeezed all the plumber's putty out and therefore leaked more than when he started....

two of them had Hepatitis C and never told me...
